The clock was used by Jefferson Davis and his family while in residence at the White House of the Confederacy in Richmond, Virginia, 1861-1865. It was purchased by S. E. Bates, Sr., (the father of the lender) at the sale of furniture from the Executive Mansion in Richmond. |
