By the time he was seven, he was a member of a local gang, the 'Hill Cats." Mrs. Davis made him a Confederate officer's uniform in 1864, and as late as March 1865, Jeff Jr. dined in the field at the Washington Artillery's camp. He possessed a boisterous and undisciplined personality. Jeff Jr. attended Virginia Military Institute but was asked to leave for an unstated reason in 1877. He died at age 21, of yellow fever. His remains lie in the Davis family plot in Hollywood Cemetery, Richmond, Virginia. |
