Notes	Born in 1839, Gary was a brother of Brig. Gen. Martin W. Gary and a brother-in-law of Brig. Gen. Nathan G. Evans. He graduated from South Carolina College and served in a prewar company of cadets. Gary was appointed Capt. of Co. A, 15th Bn. South Carolina Heavy Artillery (Lucas). He served in the defenses of South Carolina and was mortally wounded at Battery Wagner on August 12, 1863. Gary died on his 24th birthday, August 17.
