Living in Henrico County, Theodore Clay Howard enlisted on March 14, 1862 in Parker's Battery at the age of 17. At the Battle of Chancellorsville, he was wounded ("right ear shot in two"). Howard was reduced in rank to Private in October 1863. He was captured at Harpers Ferry and released in June 1865. After the war he moved to Texas and was living in Barham in 1872. Howard moved back to Richmond, Virginia where he lived for years, moving into the Lee's Camp Soldiers Home on May 29, 1925 at the age of 80, only to be discharged on November 10, 1927. He died on August 17, 1928, having never been married, and was buried in Oakwood Cemetery. |
