Notes |
Prior to the Civil War, he had served as a Brig. Gen. in the Mexican War and as Governor of Missouri. He and his men officially joined the Confederacy in March 1862, and he was appointed a Maj. Gen. He fought at Wilson's Creek, Pea Ridge (or Elkhorn Tavern), Iuka, Corinth, Helena, and Red River. Afterward, Price led an unsuccessful campaign into Missouri, resulting in his flight to Mexico. His plans with Maxmillian of Mexico fell through, and Price had to return to Missouri in an impoverished state. |
