Sixth-plate ambrotype with applied color; young girl seated in side chair, body slightly turned to viewer's left, looking at camera; hair parted down middle, smoothed into long ringlets, cheeks tinted pink; plain bodice, off the shoulder neckline with yoke with dark, trim or piping at bottom, cap sleeves pulled up in bows at shoulders, waistband at natural waist, long skirt with four horizontal lines of trim or piping above hem, hands on lap, left hand clasping leg above knee and right hand gently curled in center of lap; oval mat embossed with diamond motif; preserver stamped with floral pattern; case is leather-covered wood with embossed scroll foliate motif around central geometric medallion on obverse and reverse exterior covers; gilded scroll around interior edge of case; interior obverse case cover is lined in red velvet embossed with floral motif; two hooks and eyes offset and intact; |
