Sixth-plate daguerreotype, studio portrait of a man from waist up, 3/4 pose facing viewer's right, face turned towards camera, eyes looking slightly to the left past camera; hair parted subject's left side, worn long below ear lobes and curled under, receding hairline, long sideburns; clean shaven; wearing double-breasted civilian coat, with one button buttoned; over shirt with standing white shirt collar, wide, dark neck kerchief tied in a wide bow, dark waistcoat with print material visible, two cloth-covered buttons visible on left, wide lapels and collar, elbows bent at sides with right elbow extended out slightly; oval gilt mat with embossed scrollwork around opening, preserver is embossed with wave; dark red velvet door pad with embossed fern leaf motif, brown thermoplastic Union case; raised representation of two children on obverse section and grape leaf and grape cluster on reverse section, union case sections joined at spine by two brass hinges, brass interior clasp still intact; |
