Quarter-plate daguerreotype of a seated young man; sitting on a wooden chair with his legs crossed at knee; wearing a triple-breasted uniform jacket with brandenburgs and a white sash across his chest; are four chevrons on his sleeve [uniform possibly military acadamy] ; left hand holding a saber upright; dragoon helmet with braided horsehair decoration to his right; possibly previously colorized; image has a gold double-elliptical pebble-finish mat; preserver has simple twist pattern; case is made of leather-covered wood with the same embossed design of foliate scroll around center medallion of urn with flowers on front and back; two brass hook-and-eye latches are on one side; interior proper right of case is lined with stuffed red velvet with a embossed design of scrolled foliage along the outer edge and a small bouquet in the center; |
