Quarter-plate ambrotype on ruby glass with applied color; woman seated, sitting turned slightly to viewer's right, head facing camera, looking at camera; wearing a wide-brimmed hat placed forward towards brow, dark in color, a central brooch/buckle and a feather hanging from the right and down the side of the face, cheeks and lips tinted pink; small lace collar around neck with large rectangular brooch pinned at the center, tinted gold; striped dress material, large waistband with watch chain tinted gold attached either side of center and draped down front of skirt, dropped pagoda sleeves with ties just below elbows, worn over tightly cuffed undersleeves, left hand in lap, ring tinted gold on ring finger, right elbow resting on table draped in damask with right hand wearing glove, newell of spindle chair visible behind left upper arm; non-pareil gilt mat with embossed scalloping motif; preerver stamped with simple scroll design; case is leather-covered wood, withfloral medallion and foliate scroll embossed on reverse; obverse [cover] case section missing; brass latches in tact; red-bordered label adhered to reverse bottom, stamped with, "9356"; Adhered to the back of the case at the bottom, and upside down, is a red-bordered sticker with "9358" printed on it. Note enclosed with photograph reads: "Ann Carter Bryan_/daughter of Florida Troup/& Thos. Marsh Bryan_/Sister of Georgia Bryan/Conrad_" |
