Sixth-plate ambrotype with accent tinting; man seated, from waist up, facing camera; hair parted on left, cut below ears, clean shaven; cheeks tinted pink, wearing single-breasted uniform shell jacket with standing collar and right shoulder tab visible, buttoned up to waist, open at chest, eight buttons visible, tinted gold, one or two collarless shirts visible under jacket, right hand resting on table, left hand in lap holding something like a hat or book; oval gilt mat embossed with scrolled foliate motif; preserver has scrolled foliate motif; interior obverse cover is lined in red felt with embossed fern motif, embossed leather-covered wood case with urn motif embossing, both sections held together by cloth tape, brass latch and latch hook intact; |
