Sixth-plate tintype with applied color; young woman seated in chair, facing camera, looking at camera, hair parted down middle, smoothed down into slight wings and arranged in back, cheeks tinted pink; lace collar with ends crossed in front, brooch tinted gold attached at center, dress made of thinly striped fabric wirth form fitting corset and top, darts at bust and waist and pocket pleats extending down skirt from waist, full skirt, dress closed at front by cloth-covered buttons, 15 of which are visible, large pockets visible on right and left of skirt with braided edging on pockets flaps as well as double decorative buttons, scallop-edged handkerchief folded in right pocket, dropped shoulders and outersleeves that span out in a bell shape, large cuffs edged in piping as well as edged back-seam opening that extends up to elbow, white ballooned and cuffed lace undersleeves, bracelets on both wrists tinted gold, left hand resting on lap, right arm resting on table; chair back visible behind left shoulder; oval gilt mat embossed with scrollwork and cross hatching; preserver stamped with foliate scroll design; union case has raised wheat field motif; obverse interior case [cover] section lined with purple velvet embossed with scroll medallion; obverse and reverse case sections are detached from eachother; edge of case broken on obverse and reverse; |
