Quarter-plate ambrotype with applied color, of a woman seated, body turned slightly to viewer's left, head turned slightly to viewer's right, looking at camera; hair parted down middle, modified wings or held at sides by a hair net, cheeks and lips tinted pink, white-worked collar with a jet-in-gold rectangular brooch at center, details of bodice not visible but possibly has closed-top bell sleeves with armscyes, closed cuff white undersleeves visible, pleats on full skirt not visible, left arm and hand resting on table draped in damask cloth, right arm at side and right hand resting in lap; oval gilt mat with diamond cross-hatching embossing and raised floral pattern around oval, green velvet door pad embossed with leaf and diamond motif, thermoplastic union case with a raised motif of a lady riding sidesaddle on a horse, her dog lying down in front of her and a forest scene in the background, brass hinges and clasps; obverse interior [cover] lined in green velvet, embossed with medallion;
