Ninth-plate tintype with applied color; man seated, turned slightly to viewer's right, looking past camera to the left, in civilian dress, hair parted on the side, cut short, jug ears, trimmed moustache and goatee, cheeks and lips tinted pink, white shirt collar turned down, thin tie tied in a small bow, two shirt buttons visible, tinted gold, light-colored vest under possible sack coat with large notched lapels, edged in braid, white handkerchief hanging out of left breast pocket, left arm folded across chest at 90 degree angle, left hand tinted pink; oval embossed gilt mat; preserver stamped with foliate scroll; obverse and reverse case sections detached, and held together with black cloth tape; leather-covered wood case embossed on obverse and reverse case sections with cruciform design; obverse interior case section lined with [faded] velvet embossed with paisley design; brass hook and eye in tact; |
