Sixth-plate ambrotype with applied color; man seated, waist up body turned, head facing camera, gloved hands clapsed in front, cradling musket in crook of elbow; early war militia-style uniform of dark jacket or frock coat with light piping on collar, shoulder straps and cuffs; kepi with waterproof cover; black leather cross belts with U.S. eagle plate, oval waist belt plate and cap pouch; box knapsack with valise, both with light trim, check pattern blanket strapped to back of knapsack; double elliptical-style metal mat, preserver stamped with foliate scroll; case is leather covered wood, embossed on reverse exterior cover; obverse cover [case] section missing; |
