"James Henry Brooks adopted by Mrs. Jefferson Davis during the War & taken from her after our capture. A great pet in the family & known as Jim Limber." James Henry "Jim Limber" Brooks was taken in by the Davis family in February 1864. The whereabouts and identities of his parents are unknown. He accompanied them on the flight out of Richmond at war's end, and was separated from the Davis family by Union soldiers when Jefferson Davis was captured; his fate thereafter is unknown. |
