Description |
Sixth-plate ambrotype with accent tinting of a man with a full beard and short hair, cheeks tinted pink; he is seated and facing the viewer, looking at the camera; wearing a single-breasted shell jacket with five visible and tinted gold; and a large rectangular belt buckle tinted gold; holding a Colt Revolver in his right hand across his chest; has an 1840 Model saber in scabbard on the left side, blade down with the tip resting on the chair seat, left hand resting on the pommel; grip and metal rings on the sword are tinted gold, and the pistol also has some tinting; image is in a gold-colored metal mat with a rope around the opening and foliage in the corners and oval opening. Interior of case lid is lined with a padded mauve velvet with a cut-out geometric scrollwork pattern in center; case is made of thermoplastic with the same carved design on front and back; design consists of two pears with leaves in the center of an oval with a scrollwork surround; raised border parallels the edges of the cover with scrollwork along the sides with additional "ribbons" in the corners case has two brass hinges on one side and a slide-latch on the other; |
