Ninth-plate ambrotype with applied color; man seated, legs crossed left over right at knee, knees up; wearing single-breasted uniform jacketwith high standing collar, eight visible buttons, all buttoned close, pointed cuff piped in lighter color, gloves, holding a forage cap with waterproof cover; curly hair, parted on the side, clean shaven, cheeks tinted pink, right arm bent at elbow, gloved hand resting in lap, left arm bent and elbow resting on draped table; nonpareil gilt mat, stamped with foliate motif; preserver has foliate motif stamped into it; case is leather-covered wood, with foliate medallion and scroll embossed into exterior obverse and reverse case covers; obverse interior case cover has faded velvet lining with embossed pasley scroll; obverse and reverse case cover pieces are detached; |
