Sixth-plate ambrotype with applied color, man seated, pose to viewer's right, looking at camera, hair parted on side, cut above ears, moustache, cheeks and lips tinted pink, uniform double-breasted frock coat, twelve buttons visible, tinted gold; vest underneath, button unbuttoned, four buttons visible, tinted gold, stand up shirt collar, thin horizontal tie, left elbow bent and hand resting on lap, three buttons visible on left cuff, tinted gold, right elbow resting on draped table, hand partially resting on table in uniform with right arm resting on table; thermoplastic union case with raised floral motif; preserver stamped with foliate scroll; brass hinges, interior obverse section lined in purple velvet embossed with foliate design, double-elliptical style gilt mat with embossed shell and scroll motif at corners; |
