Capt. Edwin Betts of the 40th Virginia Infantry, Co. C. Drawing taken at Johnson's Island by a fellow prisoner with materials obtained in prison, 1864. Betts was wounded at Gettysburg; taken prisoner July 5, 1863 at Mercersburg; sent to Johnson's Island; transferred to City Point February 24, 1864; paroled May 2, 1865 on Northern Neck. |
