Sixth-plate ambrotype with applied color; man, half seated on a table with tablecloth, pictured from knees up, posed 3/4 to viewer's left; short hair, parted on the side, combed back with a modified wave, clean shaven, cheeks tinted pink, turned-down collar with wide horizontal necktie, light-colored low-cut vest with lapel, ceremonial ribbon draped along and tucked into right side of vest's lapel, hanging just above the waist, medals not visible if there are any, watch chain hanging underneath ribbon to the left, shirt buttons tinted gold, vest buttons a dark color, loose sack coat with large shawl lapel, velvet around the collar area, shirt cuff extending from right arm of coat, loose trousers, right arm by side, slightly bent with hand posed near front, pinky ring on hand tinted gold, left arm extended to front, foream and hand resting on the side of a black dog sleeping on a table with its head resting on the man's left leg which is perched on the table, slightly bent, mid-calf and below hanging off table; dog appears to be a Stafforshire Terrier or similar breed; lying down, shifted on its right side with hind legs and right foreleg lying to the left, head resting on man's left knee, eyes closed, cropped ears slightly back and relaxed, right leg and paw with white toe patches resting on man's left thigh, left foreleg resting on table, paw has white toe patches, hind legs crossed, paws have white toe patches; double elliptical mat; preserver stamped with foliate design; image framed in embossed leather-covered wood case; obverse case [cover] section missing; |
