photograph of Robert Brown, enslaved body servant of President Davis. He accompanied Varina Davis and the Davis children when they left Richmond, Virginia, in late March 1865. He was with the Davises in Irwinville, Georgia, at the time of Jefferson Davis's capture by Union troops. Brown was in charge of the Davis children when they went to Canada while President Davis was a prisoner of war at Fortress Monroe. |
