Half-plate tintype with applied color of six women, three seated in front and three standing behind them, all facing camera and looking at camera; seated to the left, hair parted down middle, smoothed behind ears, dangle earrings, cheeks tinted pink, white, narrow collar with brooch at center and ribbon strings hanging down tinted mauve, dress tinted green blue and dark plaid, snug wide ribbon around waist, covered buttons of top visible, elbow sleeves with dropped shoulders, decorative piping of same material at shoulders, white cuffs, hands crossed in lap, left over right, full hoop; seated in the center, hair parted down middle, smoothed behind ears, styled at nape of neck, long earrings, cheeks and lips tinted pink, narrow white collar with pink ribbon around it and tied in a bow in the front, dress tinted brown, five buttons visible on top, yolk, dropped shoulders and sleeve cuffs edged in wide dark material, left hand resting on lap, right hand hidden under skirt, full hoop; seated to the right, hair parted down middle, smoothed behind ears, cheeks tinted pink, narrow white collar or lace frill, thin ribbon tied around neck and tied in large bow in front, large plaid-patterned material for dress and jacket, jacket edged in grosgrain ribbon and buttons along openings and cuffs, at least 8 buttons visible on top, full hoop, right hand in lap, left hand at side and hidden; standing left, hair parted down middle and styled behind ears, thin silk ribbon tied around head with a bow on the left, cheeks tinted pink, possible thin white collar or lace frill with dark ribbon around neck, dress made from dark tattersall material, drop shoulder sleeves, corseted waist, full hoop, left hand on left shoulder of woman seated in front of her; standing center, hair parted down middle and crimped, styled at nape of neck, long earrings, cheeks tinted pink, dress made from dark material with plain neck, brooch at center, and ribbon strings hanging down, corseted waist, fitted top and full hoop, arms at sides; standing to the right, hair parted down middle, crimped and styled at nape of neck, dangle earrings, cheeks tinted pink, thin white collar or lace frill with ribbon tied around it and in a bow at front, another bow, possibly from bonnet strings, draped across left shoulder, corseted waist, dark dress with details not visible, full hoop, right hand on right shoulder of woman seated in front of her; plain backdrop visible behind group; strips of paper are adhered to the back of the plate with the following written on them: "N.C. - A203 "War-time Belles War-Time Belles S." plate only; no case; |
