Sixth-plate ambrotype with color added; man seated, facing camera, looking at camera, hair parted on side, cropped at earlobes, clean shaven; cheeks and lips tinted pink, strched collar turned down, necktie tied in bow slightly assymetrical with one end hanging down, dark civilian frock or sack coat, dark vest, white shirt, watch chain visible at waist tinted gold; oval embossed gilt mat with scroll motif, preserver is stamped with foliate scroll; top edge of preserver is bent; case is leather-covered wood embossed wwith scroll design on exterior obverse and reverse sections; obverse interior section is lined in faded red velvet embossed with scroll design; interior edges of case have gilded scroll design, brass hook and latch are in tact. |
