Major James W. Newton wore this pair of epaulets. Newton participated in the Battle of First Manassas on July 21, 1861. He was promoted to Major on March 17, 1863, retroactive to August 29, 1862. Newton was wounded and lost a leg at the Battle at Fisher's Hill on September 19, 1864. |
