The 2 bullets in the purse (.272) were removed from General Ellison Capers' hip after he was wounded. Capers was wounded three times during the war: in the leg at at Jackson, Mississippi in May 1863 during the Vicksburg Campaign; at the Battle of Chickamauga; and in the foot at the Battle of Franklin. It is tentatively assumed that this musket ball was removed from his leg in the wound received at Jackson. |
