Rectangular off-white banner with a color depiction of a GAR badge on the front. The badge consists of a golden eagle with crossed cannons at the top of red, white, and blue ribbon. A 5-pointed star with the GAR logo in the center hangs at the bottom of the ribbon. Paper and metal hanging grommets at upper edge. |

Belonged to Cornelius Carmany. GAR Post 42. This post was organized in 1867 in Lebanon County, Pennsylvania and named after Union General John Sedgwick. Cornelius Carmany was born in 1840 to Daniel and Julian (Haak) Carmany of Lebanon, Pennsylvania. He was mustered into service as a corporal with Company C, 7th Regiment of the Pennsylvania Reserves on May 27, 1861. He was captured at the Battle of the Wilderness on May 5, 1864. After the war Carmany married Emma Shuey and had a son, Harry, born circa 1872. He resided in Lebanon until his death in 1931. |
