Provenance |
The lapel pin was made of the occasion of Jackson Monument Day on May 1, 1914. No history was provided with the item, but research reveals that Jackson Flag Day was indeed declared on May 1, 1914 by the United Daughters of the Confederacy and/or the United Confederate Veterans, as a fundraiser for the Lt. Thomas J. "Stonewall" Jackson Monument in Richmond, Virginia. The formal committee for the monument was formed in November 1914. The Cornerstone Laying ceremony was held at the 25th Annual Reunion of the United Confederate Veterans on June 1-3, 1915. The Unveiling Ceremony for the Jackson Equestrian Monument was held in 1919. The monument is located at what is now the intersection of Monument Avenue and the Boulevard. |
