The watch chain of A.P. Hubbard, 4th South Carolina Infantry, Co. B, "Palmetto Riflemen". At the first Battle of Manassas, a one ounce ball pierced Hubbard's left arm above the elbow, having entered his left side, passing through his testament (Library collection) in his coat pocket, cutting his watch chain in two, and breaking his tooth brush (0985.10.202). This is the first case on record of a testament which saved a soldier's life. |
