Description |
The commemorative medal consists of three parts: a rectangular stamped brass bar pin, white metal disc-shaped pendant, and a short length of black and white striped silk ribbon. The bar pin has a stamped image of an eagle with outspread wings. A clasp pin is soldered on the back of the bar pin. A short length of black (left side) and white (right side) ribbon hangs from the bar pin. A silver-colored white metal disc-shaped pendant is suspended from the ribbon by a small metal ring. The obverse of the pendant has a relief portrait of Jefferson Davis in the center. "JEFFERSON" follows along the left edge of the disc in raised letters "DAVIS" follow along the right edge of the disc. "BORN 1808 DIED 1889" is in raised letters below the portrait. The reverse of the pendant shows an image of Gen. Robert E. Lee on horseback encircled by a laurel wreath. "UNVEILING MONUMENT GEN'L R. E. LEE AT RICHMOND VA. MAY 29th 1890 . . . " is in raised letters around the outer edge of the pendant. |
