Uniform Frock coat: double breasted, 9 buttons in each row in groups of three, cadet gray wool broadcloth with buff wool broadcloth facings and piping, white cotton lining in body, dark green wool and silk lining in skirt, yellow silk lining in sleeves, embroidered gold general's collar insignia, gold sleeve braid, and Federal staff officer buttons with backmarks: "W. G. MINTZER / PHILD" and "EXTRA / QUALITY." |

"Military coat worn by Maj. P. R. Cleburne when captured." (original catalog) Frock coat in which Maj. Gen. Patrick Ronayne Cleburne (1828 - 1864) was killed at Franklin, Tennessee on November 30, 1864. Three decades later the donor of the coat found it "so dirty and so moth-eaten" that she "hesitated about sending it on to Richmond." NOTE: This is probably not the coat Cleburne was wearing when killed. |
