This ring canteen (ring jug) was carried throughout the Revolutionary War and worn home from British General Cornwallis's surrender at Yorktown by Private John Ward, a soldier from Lunenburg County, Va. The canteen was later carried in the Civil War by John Ward's grandson, Lieutenant Robert A. Ward, Co. B, 22nd Battalion Virginia Infantry. |
