The candlestick is made of a French pearl glazed ceramic formed as a jacketed boy in a patriot's cap standing in front of a decoration of leaves and berries. Inscription: Stamped "LL 227". Within the socket was formerly a small piece of tapestry (0985.11.31). |

This candlestick was on Jefferson Davis's office table [presumably in the White House of the Confederacy] the morning that Richmond was taken by Union soldiers. In candle socket is a small piece of his window portiere (0985.11.31). The candlestick was the property of the donor's father, a doctor, and was given him by one of his patients. |
