Description |
One of four identical side chairs with the following characteristics. Each is made of walnut and has an oval back, fluted rails, braces and scroll carvings, cabriole fronts and legs, with red and gold damask upholstery. The chair was formerly upholstered in black horsehair. The four chairs match the arm chair of (0985.14.44) and the sofa of (0985.14.43). |

The set of four side chairs, sofa, and arm chair were used by the Jefferson Davis family while in residence in Executive Mansion in Richmond,Virginia. Mrs. M. A. Cameron purchased the side chairs, arm chair, and sofa at the 1870 Auction. Dr. Virginius Harrison purchased them from her in 1908. The donors purchased the pieces from Mrs. Harrison in 1928 for the Museum. |
