Non-regulation pistol box: black leather wrapped wooden block drilled for eighteen cartridges; single piece of leather covers wood block and forms outer flap; closure tab secured to flap with copper rivet; brass finial; vertical belt loops secured to box with nails; inner flap of patent leather; written in ink on interior of outer flap "Lieut. P. M. Terrill / Co. A, 62d Va Infantry / Genl Imboden's Brigade". |

According to donor history, Lt. Philip Mallory Terrill wore this cartridge box during the war. Terrill, one of Gen. Richard Stoddert Ewell's bodyguards, aided in removing the general's body after he was wounded at the Battle of Groveton (August 28, 1862). Terrill died on November 13, 1864, of wounds received at the Battle of Cedar Creek. |
