Description |
The badge is made of celluloid shaped like a canteen with multi-color lithograph markings. A narrow red cord runs through the canteen loops on either side of the top. The canteen shaped badge has a profile portrait of Winnie Davis in the center on the obverse. "DAUGHTER OF THE CONFEDERACY" is printed along the outer edge at the top above the portrait. A picture of a bouquet of roses in vase is printed on the reverse side of the "canteen." "REUNION LOUISVILLE 1900" is printed along the outer edge at the top above the roses. "Winnie Davis / Rose" is printed in script to the left of the vase. "OFFICIAL" is printed on the spout of the "canteen." The manufacturer's name and address, "The Whitehead & Hoag Co., Newark, N. J.," is printed along the slant on the bottom of the obverse of the badge. |

This badge was made for the Tenth Annual United Confederate Veterans Reunion, held in Louisville, Kentucky on May 30, 1900. Winnie Davis, youngest daughter of Jefferson Davis was known as the "Daughter of the Confederacy." William H. Allen, owner of the badge, was a 1st Sgt. in Co. L, 1st (Feild's) Tennessee Infantry, CSA. He joined the company at age 19 and was its Color Bearer. |
