Provenance |
According to note found with stone, "Lithographic stone used at Anderson, South Carolina to engrave Confederate government bonds and bills." However, stone shows portion of map, NOT currency. History may have been mistakenly assigned to this object, or the currency stone may have been on the reverse (as double-sided stones are common). This stone appears to be for a map, "Map of Eastern Virginia and North Carolina: From the United States Coast Survey," published by Evans and Cogswell at Columbia, South Carolina, 1864.) |
