Confederate Cavalry Officer's Sword: straight, double-edged blade with three short fullers and engraved with military trophies, floral sprays and the motto "NO ME SAQUES SIN RAZON / NO ME EMBAINES SIN HONOR"; brass half basket hilt of three branches and knuckle bow flowing from oval guard into pommel decorated on the forward edge with floral sprays; grip wrapped with leather and wound with brass wire, brass ferrule and remains of leather finger loop. With metal scabbard (.47a) and sword sling (.47b). |

Brig. General Bradley Tyler Johnson owned this sword and scabbard during the war. Lt. Gen. Wade Hampton gave the sword and scabbard to him in March 1864 with the credit for saving Richmond from Union Gen. Kilpatrick's attack (February 28 - March 2, 1864). Sword manufactured by Kraft, Goldschmidt, & Kraft with imported German blade. |
