Silver tray (d) that is engraved in the center, "TO / Juliet A. Hopkins / FROM / MOBILE RIFLE CO". Part of silver water set consisting of two (2) silver goblets (a, b); and a tray (d); stored in a wooden case (c) with hinged lid with two clasps. Now missing a pitcher (e). |

"This set of silver was presented to Mrs. Arthur F. Hopkins (Miss Juliet Opie), a Virginian, in recognition of very distinguished service to the Confederate Cause. It was given her in 1873 by the Mobile Rifles of which Captain Price Williams was commander. At the breaking out of the Civil War Mrs. Hopkins was sent by the state of Alabama to establish the Alabama Hospital at Richmond. She was wounded twice on the battlefield of Seven Pines helping to carry wounded Alabama soldiers off the field. Gen. Lee said she had done more for the South than all the women. Mrs. Hopkins was Miss Juliet Opie of Jefferson County VA." |
