This canteen was taken from the body of a dead Federal soldier on the battlefield of Drewry's Bluff by James M. Burton, 38th Virginia Infantry. Burton was a friend of Corporal Thomas Vaden Brooke of the Richmond Howitzers, who became the owner of the canteen. "The canteen was taken from a dead Federal soldier on battlefield of Drewry's Bluff by a friend of the owner who was a member of the 38th Virginia Infantry, Armistead's Brigade, Pickett's Division, the late James M.
