Description |
Single steel, half-mounted spur (a) with engraved designs of curving lines, dots, and hash marks; downward curving neck with 2 inch, 10-point rowel; eyelet for jingle bobs (missing); wide leather instep strap attached to studs at terminal ends of heel band; chain under strap attached to metal clips passing through slot beneath studs; "Col. Harry Gilmor / Oct. 1862" in ink on underside of leather strap. With detached leather strap (b) and metal tag (c). |

"A spur given to Gen'l Bradley T. Johnson by Lieut. Col. Harry Gilmor of Balt[imore]. He wore it the day that Ashby was killed, he being then a private in Ashby's command."
