Description |
The badge consists of an oval brass frame pin containing a sepia photograph portrait of Jefferson Davis attached to a small rectangle of red and white ribbon. "JEFFERSON DAVIS" is printed below the portrait. Two slightly longer lengths of black ribbon are also attached to the back of the pin. The black ribbons extend out from the lower left and right "corners" of the oval frame. The red and white ribbon hangs down from bottom of the pin. A clasp pin is attached to the top of the back of the oval frame. This badge is associated with two others (70.1 & 70.2) that were together with a note stating, "Some Badges Sent to Mrs. Jefferson Davis." |

This pin was worn as a memoriam for Jefferson Davis upon his death on December 6, 1889 in New Orleans. He was buried originally in Metairie Cemetery but re-interred at Hollywood Cemetery in Richmond, Virginia on May 31, 1893. A note attached to the three badges (TBMRs -70.1, 70.2, 70.3) states, "Some Badges Sent to Mrs. Jefferson Davis." |
