Quote from Rives - "I got this cup in an empty house in South Carolina in 1861. The people in the house had fled from the Yankee gun boats. I carried it all through the four years of the War. It went through all the battles of Port Royal, Corinth, Perryville, Murfreesboro, Cheat Mountain and it was with me during the months of my imprisonment at Camp Chase. It was also in my haversack on my person at my last battle at Macon, Georgia." T. J. Rives was a member of Co. D, 8th Tennessee Infantry. |
