Pattern: Army of Northern Virginia battle flag; wool, cotton, canvas. 1940s Fowler-Richey conservation. Stars: Thirteen white cotton, 5-pointed. Border: 1 3/4 inches white wool on 3 sides, 2 inches white canvas on hoist edge. Attachment: Eyelets. Unit Designation: "40 VA." stenciled in yellow paint. Battle Honors: Stenciled in black paint, in upper quadrant, "MECHANICSVILLE.", "COLD HARBOR.", and "FRAZIER'S FARM."; in left quadrant, "CEDAR RUN.", "MANASSAS.", and "OX HILL."; in right quadrant, "HARPER'S FERRY.", "SHARPSBURG.", and "SHEPHERDSTOWN."; and in the lower quadrant, "FREDERICKSBURG." and "CHANCELLORSVILLE." |
