Description |
This is a waste bowl (or waste pot) (.169e) with lid (.169f) and tray (.169d) . Hard paste porcelain tea service of Lowestoft Oriental export, with a moss rose pattern with gilt glazed borders. The waste pot is oval-shaped, and its lid has an acorn pull. The tray is oval. The tea service matches the cake plate and fruit plates in (0985.7.168-.168f). |

Provenance |
The tea service with plates (0985.168-.168f) were used constantly by President and Mrs. Jefferson Davis while they lived in the Executive Mansion in Richmond, Virginia. They were removed from the Mansion in 1865 by Mrs. Mary O'Melia, the Davis' housekeeper. Mrs. O'Melia kept the tea service and plates until her death in 1906. She left the china to her granddaughter, Kate G. Doyle. |
