[John Curtis] Underwood when Richmond was evacuated." Tentatively associated with evacuation of Richmond, as rest of china in this set (accession number 1984.21) has the following history: "Traditionally, these belonged to Jefferson Davis and were once used in the White House of the Confederacy. Part of the set ordered for the Confederate White House of Richmond, but which never served that purpose. When the china arrived, it was put in bond awaiting the result of the war. The china was bought and given to Judge John Curtis Underwood." |
