The trumpet was taken from Confederate boat, CSS McRea, opposite the City of New Orleans on April 24, 1862. She was set on fire by Confederates to prevent her from falling into Commodore Farragut's hands, who was in charge of the Union fleet coming up the river to capture New Orleans. A Mr. Johnson saved the trumpet and gave it to Mrs. Emilie F. Wilder. |
