Money belt belonged to Private John C. Speck. A courier for General Robert E. Lee, he was also a member of Company C, 39th Battalion, Virginia Cavalry. A student at the beginning of the war, he enlisted on November 1, 1863, in Orange Court House, Virginia; and died of disease at Richmond hospital on June 30, 1864. |
