Description |
The badge consists of a tin rectangular bar pin, a short length of blue satin ribbon, and a piece of leather shaped like a shoe sole. The front of the bar pin is plain, and a clasp pin is soldered on the back. A length of blue satin ribbon hangs from the bar pin and doubles back through a small metal hanger attached to the leather pendant. The ribbon has no markings. The front of the shoe sole pendant is inscribed with the following at the top, "POST 6, G. A. R. / LYNN / July 4th, / 1887." "RICHMOND" is inscribed in large letters across the mid-section of the sole. The bottom section is inscribed with the following, "Gettysburg / July 4th / 1863." |

Alexander Jennings collected this badge worn by a Union veteran belonging to Grand Army of the Republic, Post No. 6; the veteran attended a reunion of his post held in Richmond on July 4, 1887. The reunion commemorated the Battle of Gettysburg. Jennings was a Sergeant with Co. D, 15th Virginia Infantry. |
