The button was taken from a Confederate Sergeant's coat by Corporal J. L. Smith, Co. K, 118th Pennsylvania Infantry in August 1864. It was at "The Flowers House" on the Weldon Railroad, Virginia, where the sergeant lay wounded with five bullets through the calf of his right leg. Smith gave the button to the donor in 1894. |
