Hair: Strands of hair; mostly are blond/light grey, but a few darker, wirey strands(a). Originally stored inside an envelope (b). Yellow envelope with a 3-cent stamp which was cancelled July 14 (unknown year) in Tennessee. The envelope was originally addressed to "Jefferson Davis at Fortress Monroe, Virginia". Handwritten at a ninety-degree angle is "President Davis hair cut at Fortress Monroe for (?) Gen.R E Lee's grey horse tail." |
